Jerome Robins - The New Beginnings EP - Part 1 (featuring remixes by James Warren, Slighter) (Polytechnic Recordings)
Release Date: November 18th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.8/5

Jerome Robins is name you might know firstly as one of the founders and main men from the well-known Release Records outfit. In recent times he has diversified the Release brand into the Release Promo Pool, whilst spending an increased amount of his own time in the studio. This two-part EP can be found on the very respectable and rising Denver label Polytechnic Recordings. Part 1 of "The New Beginnings EP" features the original of Twilight, a James Warren remix, and the Slighter remix of Escape. Other versions of these tracks can be found on Part 2 of the EP.

First up, the Twilight Original mix is a thumping progressive track with a solid bassline and a happy arpeggio on show. A nice change of drum pattern comes in the main drop before the melodies rise up and a snare brings us back into 4/4 action, definitely a peak time prog moment.

Next, the Twilight James Warren remix is another melody based progressive number. A breaks-based drop mid-tune gives us the highlight reel moment, something akin to a 60-yard long Jay Cutler pass for a touchdown; it’s another "up" mix, full of energy.

To round things off, Escape Slighter remix is another full on progressive number with swirling sounds to the fore. 4/4 and breakbeats are both on show; this is another solid component of the EP.

So Part 1 of the two-part "New Beginnings EP" saga definitely gets the series off to a strong start, with plenty of energy and melodies on show. Part 2 coming soon on a CD deck near you…
