Lea-D - We Play EP
(Proton Ltd.)
Release Date: November 12th, 2008

Proton has surely carved itself a wide path over the past couple of years, earning a reputation for bringing smooth, cutting edge music to the table. After the undying success of the Proton Music imprint, Sam Packer introduced Proton Ltd, a sister imprint which turns out to be an outlet for their grittier and more tech-fueled music. The ever-talented Lea-D takes the stage for Ltd's latest offering. This is the "Lea-D - We Play EP."
We Play wastes no time laying down the groove, as clear kick drums and high hats set forth in groovy fashion. A reverberated synth line gradually makes its way toward the front of the mix, as sharp snares lay down a bouncy groove, making way for a chugging, arpeggiated bassline that really gets things moving. Washy chords and pads are added, along with some effected and delayed vocal snippets, to really put this one in its own class. We Play is deep, techy, and absolutely destroys dancefloors. This is as classy as it gets.
On the flip side, we find another little gem. Mighty Peanuts is indeed mighty, but the sound of this tune is much more massive than any peanut I have come across. This one is a bit more upbeat, using a steady synthline that just taunts people to get up and move. Nearly bordering in-between progressive and tech house, Mighty Peanuts is sure to garner support from all over with its warm and groovy vibe.
Overall, this is an impressive release. And even more so, because it needed absolutely no remixes to get it's message across. Chalk another one up for Proton.
